Board of Directors
All of CHEA's Board Members have been homeschooling for 10 to 20 years and have been active in home education leadership for many years.
Susan Beatty
Susan Beatty co-founded in 1982 and was its director for the first several years. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors, she serves as Communications Director. Susan is the author of CHEA's Introduction to Home Education manual and edits The California Parent Educator magazine. She and her husband, Larry, live in Anaheim and have graduated their three children from home education.
Harry Beeson
Harry Beeson joined CHEA's Board in 1993. He is a certified public accountant and serves as CHEA's Chief Financial Officer. Harry and his wife, Linda, live in Shadow Hills with their five children, three of whom have graduated from home education.
John Eastis
Before joining the Board of Directors in 2001, John and his wife, Annette, served on CHEA's Regional Advisory Board. John recently closed a successful business to pursue training as a pastor. The Eastises live in the Whittier area. They have graduated the three oldest of their five children.
Steve Murphy
Steve and wife Susan served on CHEA's Regional Advisory Board prior to his joining the Board of Directors in 2001. Steve is a project manager for Northrop Grumman. The Murphys live in Thousand Oaks and graduated both their children from home education.
Mary Schofield
Mary Schofield joined CHEA's Board of Directors in 1993. She served for several years as Support Network Director and is currently the coordinator for Support Network activities. Mary is the author of the popular The High School Handbook and edits CHEA's Support Network News. She and her husband, Paul, live in Placerville. Both of their sons are homeschool graduates.
