Capitol Day and Leadership Conference

January 16-19, 2019
3927 Marconi Avenue
Sacramento, CA 95821

Prepared for the Battle

Join CHEA and Family Protection Ministries for these tandem events. Attend one, or the other, or both!

Capitol Day, January 16-18
Homeschool families are invited to join us as we visit our newly elected or re-elected state legislators. Our goal is to create a visible presence and positive impression of private Christian home education. Training is provided and is required for all participants. In addition to training, you’ll hear inspiring messages from those who work with the legislature at the Capitol. Also planned is a tour of the Capitol Building.

Leadership Conference, January 18-19
After Capitol Day events, homeschool leaders and those interested in leading will gather for training, refreshment, and encouragement with an emphasis on training in civic involvement.

Topics will include:

  • Getting your group ready for action
  • How to write letters to legislators and position papers
  • Practical ways you can help your families stay with private homeschooling
  • Why homeschooling privately is still a great idea
  • Answering the questions that keep homeschool leaders up at night
  • Threats homeschooling faces today
  • and more

Registration is open now.
Choose to attend just the Capitol Day (no charge, though you need to register), lunch at Capitol Day ($15 for an individual; $30.00 for families.) The Leadership Conference ($65).

More Details

CAPITOL DAY - For Families and Leaders
Capitol Day is an event where homeschool families will be able to participate (subject to registration approval) in visiting our newly elected and returning legislature. We’ll be giving them a positive introduction to homeschooling. Those interested can start the approval process by registering online. You will be contacted to confirm whether your registration was approved. We recommend you wait for confirmation of approval before making any non-refundable travel plans. If confirmed, you will also receive a preparation packet. We encourage you to please share this event with your homeschooling friends.

Capitol Day is free of charge, though registration is required. Lunch purchase is optional. Going off of the Capitol Building property to get lunch is not recommended due to limited parking and the return through the security screening. You may bring limited snacks into the building, but they do not allow us to bring picnic lunches inside. Because we are meeting in January, there's the very real chance of inclement weather so planning lunch on the lawn is not recommended. The cost for lunch is $15.00 for an individual; $30.00 for couples and families.

Note: All students and parents who want to visit the legislature need to attend the training class on Thursday, January 17 at 8:00 a.m.

Children at Capitol Day? Children who are well-dressed, well-behaved, and able to sit through a business meeting are welcome to attend with their parents.

LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE - For Homeschool Group Leaders and those Interested in Leading
This is planned for those in leadership of private Christian homeschool groups. Topics and discussions have been chosen with the express intent to inspire and equip homeschool leaders in their ministries and to help them foster a sense of advocacy in their groups. Please see the schedule at

Children at the Leadership Conference? This is an adult only event. There is no accommodation for children and no childcare. Nursing infants are welcome.

Registration is open now.
