,With seven young children in our home, we do a lot of explaining about what is going on in the world around us. It can be tempting to give short answers but doing so shirks our responsibility to train our children in discernment.  Tim Challies says “Discernment is a skill. It is not an inherent ability like breathing or chewing but a skill like reading or public speaking that must be practiced and must be improved. Studying and growing in discernment is something that we as parents need to model for our children as well as mentor them in it. How can we do this in a world that is so confusing and full of people that teach that lies are truth and truth doesn’t exist? Jay Adams puts it this way “Only consistent study of the scriptures and the regular application of scriptural truth to the teachings of all who make such claims will sharpen one’s discernment”.
