Operation Christmas Child
Every year Samaritan’s Purse organizes Operation Christmas Child to provide Christmas gifts and Christian literature to millions of needy children around the world. Last year they delivered more than eight million boxes worldwide. It’s easy to participate. Fill a shoe box with school items, toys and hygiene items (toothbrush, comb, soap) and deliver to a drop-off location, located around the country and searchable by zip code at the Samaritan’s Purse website. A list of suggested items and box labels are available at the website.
Collection dates are in November each year and will be added here. This is an excellent opportunity to involve the whole family in selecting and packing items. Visit www.samaritanspurse.org or call 1-800-353-5949 for more information.
Home School Foundation Ambassadors Needed
The Home School Foundation, the charitable arm of the Home School Legal Defense Association, extends a request to get involved in their program. As the volunteer service arm of the HSF, the HSF Ambassador Program is well-established in 30 states with 56 ambassadors providing tangible help and encouragement to families in need. They would like to reach many more struggling families, however, who may not even know that HSF is here to help them.
The HSF Ambassador Program is looking for more ambassadors who have a heart for our ministry. The Ambassador Program is an excellent opportunity for homeschoolers to come alongside fellow homeschooling families in times of need. Volunteers who can give a few hours per month may apply to become either a state or community ambassador, and children 15–18 years may enroll and serve alongside a parent/guardian ambassador as a youth ambassador.
Ambassadors may offer their services in one or more ways, including:
- Representing HSF at homeschool events in the spring and at workplace giving events in the fall.
- Raising funds for homeschool families that are struggling financially.
- Implementing service projects for needy homeschool families.
To learn more about the duties of a volunteer ambassador, follow this link. A link to a brief questionnaire at the bottom of this page begins the application process for adults and children ages 16–18, who may serve alongside a parent or guardian who enrolls.
To learn what HSF Ambassadors are currently doing, visit www.homeschoolfoundation.org. If you would like to learn more about the Ambassador Program, call Ricci Black at 540-338-8299.
