LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL MINI-CON

Registration

Thursday, May 9, 2024
4:30 – 9:00 p.m.

Biola University
La Mirada, CA

Parents and their teens are invited to attend this FREE, fun, informative evening on navigating high school and beyond. There are many different pathways open to homeschooled students after high school, and our goal is to give you an overview of several of them.

Our desire is to show parents that not only is it possible to homeschool through high school, but you can be successful and prepare your student for whatever God may have for him after graduation, including college. Teens are encouraged to come to learn more about the possibilities, the college admissions process, and attend the college fair, where representatives from colleges will be happy to meet you and answer your individual questions.

This event is FREE and open to the public, though registration is required.

Sponsored by the Institute for Excellence in Writing

Workshops

The Sky’s the Limit!, Durenda Wilson
These final years seem full of pressure and can feel intimidating. Every parent wonders if their kids will be prepared for college, if they missed something, or if their child will measure up. In this workshop, parents are encouraged to take a step back and consider possible post-high school options that might be a better fit for their graduate. Durenda is in her 19th year of homeschooling high schoolers and will share how she turned her children’s interests and experiences into high school credits and how combining subjects can help keep your high schooler motivated. She will also share the importance of parents moving away from a dominating role and more toward the role of a coach during this season.

Is Your Student College Bound?, Penny Ross
If you think your student might be headed to college, this workshop will provide an introduction and overview to the process. We will discuss the basics of higher education including the different types of schools (community college, UC, CSU, private college, Christian college, Bible college, and vocational school), admissions guidelines for homeschoolers, and a short primer on financial aid.

College Fair & Exhibit Hall Preview
After our great speaker sessions, we invite you to join us in our Exhibit Hall for our College Fair. Find the perfect match for your student, ask questions of the schools to find out what they are looking for, and enjoy the beginning of an amazing journey as your child starts to move into adulthood. Families must attend at least “Is Your Student College Bound?” to receive admission to the College Fair and Exhibit Hall.
